The Doors [UMD for PSP]

The Doors [UMD for PSP] Review

See more picture

Thanks in large part to its meticulous re-creation of the late 1960s and early 1970s rock scene and the uncannily authentic performance by Val Kilmer as legendary Doors front man Jim Morrison, Oliver Stone's hypnotic film biography is standing the test of time. Capturing the carefree mood of the Age of Aquarius, the film charts the meteoric rise of the Doors on the California club circuit (including a memorable scene showing the creation of the hit "Light My Fire"), and chronicles the band's exploits with hallucinogenics and Morrison's battles against charges of public indecency on stage. Kilmer's performance is hauntingly perfect, and performances by Meg Ryan, Kathleen Quinlan, and Kyle MacLachlan are similarly impressive. The movie doesn't fully probe the depths of Morrison's character, but as a portrait of excess it is vividly true to the spirit of the self-destructive poet known to his fans as "The Lizard King." --Jeff Shannon

The Three Stooges Collection

The Three Stooges Collection Review

See more picture

The Three Stooges were the undisputed kings of physical comedy. Their slapstick antics are just as fresh today as they were fifty, sixty, even seventy years ago when they began making short comedies for MGM and Columbia Studios. Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard were the first and best-known version of this zany trio. When Curly fell ill in the late forties, he was replaced by his brother, Shemp. After Shemp came Joe Besser in 1955 and, finally, burlesque comedian Joe De Rita, who costarred with Larry and Moe in their later, full-length features. In this extraordinary collection, you'll get the very best of the Three Stooges, including classic shorts with Larry, Moe, and Curly; comedies with Larry, Moe, and Shemp; a rare, live episode of "Camel Comedy Caravan" from 1950 guest-starring Larry, Moe, and Shemp; cartoons from the Stooges' 1965 animated series; plus rare comedy shorts starring individual Stooges - and more! No self-respecting Three Stooges fan should be without this fabulous collection!

DVD 1 -- 50 min A Three Stooges Celebration Using rare footage and scenes from some of their funniest films, this hour-long salute to Hollywood's most hysterical hooligans traces the history and careers of the Three Stooges, from their early years at MGM and Columbia Studios, right up through their still-sizable legions of loyal fans.

DVD 2 -- 70 min The Thirties Here are Larry, Moe, and Curly - the original Three Stooges - at their comical best. In "Disorder in the Court" (1936), the Stooges are called as witnesses at a murder trial. In "Hollywood on Parade" (1932) - Larry, Moe and Curly appear with Stooges founder, Ted Healy, alongside Tinseltown legends such as Gary Cooper, Bing Crosby, and Ginger Rogers. "Knife of the Party" (1934) - Before Shemp joined the Three Stooges, he made movies with a different set of stooges. In this short, Shemp and a troupe of actors are forced to work at a hotel in order to pay their bill. "Henry the Ache" (1934) - Shemp joins in on the fun as Bert Lehr (several years away from playing the Cowardly Lion in "The Wizard of Oz") plays King Henry in the parody of Charles Laughton's then-current "Private Life of Henry VIII."

DVD 3 -- 80 min The Forties Here are Larry, Moe, and Shemp in four of their wackiest comedy shorts. "Malice in the Palace" (1949) stars the boys as restaurateurs who run off to a faraway land in search of the Rootin Tootin diamond. In "Sing a Song of Six Pants" (1947), Larry, Moe, and Shemp have "pressing business" in a dry-cleaning store, then get mixed up in a bank robbery. "The Brideless Groom" (1947) is a Stooges classic in which Shemp has to get married immediately or lose his inheritance. Hold hands, you love birds! "Camel Comedy Caravan" (1950) is a rare, live kinescope in which Larry, Moe, and Shemp are network executives who harass comedian Ed Wynn on his television show.

DVD 4 -- 60 min The New Three Stooges Part 1 In 1965, Larry, Moe, and Curly Joe (De Rita) came out with "The New Three Stooges," an animated television series using their actually voices. To introduce each cartoon, they filmed live-action wraparounds, so we get to see animated as well as real-live Stooges!

DVD 5 -- 60 min The New Three Stooges Part 2 Here are more classic cartoons from the 1965 TV series that was produced by Cambria Studios - the same company that gave us the memorable "Space Angel" and "Clutch Cargo"! "Hollywood Steps Out" (1941) - This justly famous Warner Brothers cartoon classic features caricatures of well-known stars of Hollywood's golden era - including Larry, Moe, and Curly!

See more picture

Join us for a ride through the history of car-culture commerce from the first gas station to the drive-thru funeral parlors and wedding chapels of today. We chronicle the birth of the first drive-in restaurants that paved the way for a billion-dollar fast food dynasty, and feature many lesser-known drive-thru venues, such as dry cleaners, flu shot clinics, liquor stands, and drug stores. And we'll take a journey to the future to see what products might be passing through the drive-thru of tomorrow.

The Oscar(r)-winning creators of Wallace and Gromit ™ do it again with sheeptacular new adventures and just shear wackiness.
